Dear readers, Coastal Side of Yermal Thenka is dominated by Fisherman Community called Marakalas which later renamed as Mogaveera Communities. This community was surviving on Fishing and selling the catch. Since catching the fish in the sea is tough and united they have to work there is always brotherly feelings in the community. Unity in Mogaveeras is a model for all the other communities. It gives the strength and discipline. Yermal Thenka was organised by having four heads called Gurikars. Gurikars are from four different houses they are 1. Chinga Gurikar House, 2. Chennappa Gurikar House, 3 Baba Gurikar House and 4, Kaanthu Gurikar House. In olden days any dispute in the village, never used to go to the court, and are solved internally in the Ooru Sabha headed by these Four heads. Any function in the village also required the presence of these Gurikars. As time passed financial condition and mussel power of these Gurikars diminished the system is changed to elected head for the Ooru who with elected committee started controlling the day to day affair. With whatever administrative modification Unity in the community still prevailing which is why community is progressing in Education, business, and cultural front. Mogaveera community inYermal Thenka Village are responsible to have Kannada Medium Govt Highschool and an English medium School. They have their own Bajana Mandir and other cultural activities. Roughly 50% of Yermal Thenka Mogaveer community are in USA, Europe, Gulf Countries, and major portion are in Mumbai, Pune and Bangalore. This can be now called as model Village showing progress in all the fronts.Village members are always ready to participate in any community projects.

It is learnt that this Jain temple was built by one of the pearls merchant from Gujarat state during the 12th century. When he was coming towards south India by sea. His boat was struct with a massive rock. On checking it was found to be a statue of Jaina thirthankara with moon symbol on its foot. The merchant prayed for his release from this obstruction, and miraculously the boat moved a little further. At this time, he decided to take this idle to the shore and built a small temple there in Yermadu, now called Yermal. He lived there for many years and it is now understood that the same generation is still continuing there and maintaining the Sri Chandranatha Digamber jaina Mandhir. Y. Suresh Kumar s/o Late Mr.Dharanendra kumar s/o Chandaiah Indra s/o Gummanna Indra s/o Padma indra family is conducting daily Jaina Pooja(worship)Vidhi in this temple. Now this temple is to be renovated and the family requests all devotees to contribute their donations.

Yermal is really a beautiful coastal village. I am not sure about the total houses
in this village. The Janardhana Teemple is really beautiful and specious. They serve
serve occasionally free meals which is really very tasty. The beach us also very beautiful but very rough. One should not enter it without proper swimming kits.
There is a beautiful Palm Beach Resort which is very close to the sea shore. The room rents are very reasonable and the food served there is really very good and tasty. I love Yermal Bada.
